The Psicoballet Project was founded in Cuba 50 years ago as a comprehensive, therapeutic, genuinely Cuban care system. It was conceived by the initiative of Doctor Georgina Fariñas, under the sponsorship and promotion of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, founding Director of the National Ballet of Cuba, and Doctor Bernabé Ordaz, founding director of the Psychiatric Hospital of Havana. From the beginning, the project voluntarily included psychologists, educators and ballet teachers, who believed and demonstrated that Psychoballet positively influenced children and adolescents, making it valid and viable due to the well-being it brings. For years its application has been extended to other nations, with excellent results. For this reason, and 50 years after the creation of this successful Project, founders and collaborators were recognized. Maitre Laura Alonso together with Doctor Georgina Fariñas were recognized, as well as the important support of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta was remembered. Remembered by Doctor Fariñas in her speech during the awards and recognition ceremony, which took place at the Hispanic American Cultural Center.
